Most of us either spend our winters comfortable by paying a massive heating bill or we save money by sacrificing comfort. But it doesn’t have to be this way. You can stay comfortable without having to fork out hundreds of dollars during the winter months.
If you don’t believe me then you must read this post. I am going to share my top hacks to keep your home warm and save money during the winter…
Invest in a good blanket:
The chill is most potent in the middle of the night as you will be inactive. The best way to counter it is by getting a really good blanket. This could be an ordinary thick blanket or an electric blanket. The blanket might be expensive, but it will last for years and save you a lot of money as you can turn the heat down during the night. A good blanket will also trap more heat and take longer for the heat to diffuse out.
Let the sun in:
In the morning you can open the curtains so that the sun’s rays come inside. This will be highly effective for people who have south facing windows. Make sure you draw curtains when the sun begins to set. Use really thick curtains as they will keep the heat in.
Even lining your windows with bubble wrap can help. The tiny pockets of air will offer great insulation.
Reverse your ceiling fan:
In the winter you should set your ceiling fan to reverse so that it rotates clockwise. This will ensure that the cool air rises to the top and warm air stays at the bottom. For this method to work at its best you will need to keep the speed setting at low.
Practice zonal heating:
Set your thermostat so that it only heats the rooms you will be spending the most of the time in. This can vary depending on the time of the day. This means that your bedrooms will be the warmest during the night and other rooms like the lounge will be the warmest during the day.
These heating hacks will help keep you warm and still save you money during the winter. Make sure you use all of them.
